About Alice
Currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, multi-hyphenate musician Dr. Alice Hong is an internationally acclaimed violinist and composer whose work bridges tradition and innovation. Named one of CBC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30” (2018), her compositions have been praised as “beautifully cinematic” (EarRelevant) and “gorgeous, achingly sweet” (Ludwig van Toronto). Her music has been performed and read by leading ensembles including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Niagara Symphony, Georgian Bay Symphony, Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra, Ludwig Symphony Orchestra, and the Amersfoort Youth Orchestra. Alice was recently appointed Limited Term Assistant Professor of Composition at Kennesaw State University for the 2025–2026 academic year and named the 2025 Sioux City Symphony Orchestra Composer of the Year.
Alice’s music has been heard throughout the United States, Japan, Canada, Hungary, the Netherlands, Sweden, and China. She has received commissions from a wide range of institutions, including the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Summer Music, GMEA All-State Orchestra, Lövstabruks Kammarmusikfestival, Chamber Music @ New Park, and ensemble vim. Performers of her music and arrangements include Vadim Gluzman, Atlanta Chamber Players, Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, Faulkner Chamber Music Festival, Canzona Chamber Players, Chamber Music of the Ozarks, Monarch Chamber Players, Colgate Chamber Players, Belvedere Chamber Music Festival, Atlantic Chamber Ensemble, Land’s End Ensemble, ensemble vim, ARCOnaut Trio, and the Hera Trio.
Individual performers of her music include principal members of the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Eighth Blackbird, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Her works have received honors from the ASCAP Morton Gould Awards and first prizes in the International Keuris Competition, Carl E. Baldassarre Composer-Virtuosi Competition, NorCal Viola Society Commission Contest, and Pikes Peak Composition Competition, in addition to recent recognition in the 2024 Rapido! Cycle 7 Composition Competition.
As a violinist, Alice has appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout the Southeastern United States and has performed in the violin sections of orchestras across North America, including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony Orchestra and more. A passionate chamber musician, she has shared the stage with distinguished artists including James Ehnes, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin, Cho-Liang Lin, Jonathan Crow, Teng Li, the New Orford String Quartet, and Barry Shiffman. Her compositions and performances have been featured on CBC Radio, WABE 90.1 Atlanta, KWIT 90.3 Siouxland Public Radio, and WSMR 89.9 Tampa.
She appears regularly at summer festivals including the Colorado Music Festival, The Hamptons Festival of Music, Highlands Chamber Music Festival, and the newly launched Classical Remix Music Festival, where she serves as Music Director. She has also performed her own works at major venues and festivals including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Colorado Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and Heifetz Institute on Tour. As a student, she participated in programs and festivals including Kneisel Hall, Sarasota Music Festival, Lake George Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity Masterclasses for Strings and Winds, Toronto Summer Music, and the Heifetz Institute, among others.
Alice holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied under Jonathan Crow; a Master of Music degree from Rice University Shepherd School of Music as a Dorothy R. Starling Foundation Scholar studying with Cho-Liang Lin; and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with David Updegraff.
As a private violin instructor, Alice’s students have participated in prestigious ensembles such as the Georgia Music Educators Association’s All-State Orchestras, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra. Her students have gone on to pursue violin performance degrees at institutions such as the Yale School of Music, the Eastman School of Music, the New England Conservatory, and the University of Notre Dame. She has also served as a Teaching Assistant at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Toronto, working with faculty members Jonathan Crow, Annalee Patipatanakoon, Norbert Palej, and Gary Kulesha.
Beyond music, Alice is an enthusiastic crafter and painter; her handmade creations are available on this site under Flora & Fold. She also began acting in 2019 and made her screen debut in Netflix’s Red Notice (2021), starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. She also appears in Marvel’s Hawkeye, Netflix’s First Kill, First Wives Club on BET+ and various commercials. She is represented by STW Talent Agency.
